I am very excited about having your child in my class this year! I know it
is going to be a wonderful year for all of us. I encourage you to get
involved in your child's academics. Please help them daily in their oral
reading fluency, comprehension, spelling, vocabulary, writing, and math.
They will greatly benefit from it.
A daily report will be sent home which identifies your child's
behavior. Please initial and send back to school in the blue folder
every day. Also, you will see the weekly skills in their blue folder.
This lists your child's homework for the evening, as well as high-frequency words, spelling words, and vocabulary words. Be sure to initial by the correct day and return to school each day.
We're Diving into 1st Grade!!
Please be sure that I know how your child is going home in the
afternoons. If it is necessary to change the routine during the year,
please do so by writing a note or notifying the front office.
Your child will have a designated time for snack
each day. Please send a nutritious snack and a drink each day.
No glass containers or carbonated beverages may be brought to school.
The Jackson County School Board has an attendance policy. Please
make sure that your child is here and on time if at all possible. Our
school day begins at 7:50. Excessive absences could result in retention.
Please make sure you send a written excuse for any absence.
There will be many fun events that we will be involved in such as field
trips, parties, etc. If you would like to volunteer at these events or by helping in my classroom, please do so. If you wish to have a birthday party for your child at school, you may do so. Please let me know in advance so that I may schedule a time that doesn't conflict with our extracurricular activities.

Our school collects box tops throughout the year and receives 10
cents for each box top brought. Please help us raise money for our
school by clipping box tops and sending them in each month. Your child will receive a prize for each 10 they bring. For participating products, click on www.boxtops4education.com.
Your child will be assessed 3 times this year on iReady. Please make sure you help prepare your child at home by practicing daily with their oral reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, sight words, and spelling patterns. Also, review all math skills for each day to ensure they do well on the tests.  Their weekly assessments are very important.  By the end of the year, your child must master 80% of the sight word list and have 70/C or higher in Reading and Math.  They will not be promoted to 2nd grade with a D or an F for the yearly average.
